Name of Act Details
Data Protection Act 1998 The Act that makes provision for the regulation of the processing of information relating to individuals, including the obtaining, holding, use or disclosure of such information.
Access to Health Records Act 1990 The Act that established a right of access to health records by the individuals to whom they relate and other persons.

Now only of relevance in respect of deceased patients and the rights of access by personal representatives and those having a claim arising from the death.
Access to Medical Reports Act 1988 The Act that establishes a right of access by individuals to reports relating to themselves provided by medical practitioners for employment or insurance purposes and to make provision for related matters.
Section 251 of the NHS Act 2006 Section 251 of the NHS Act 2006 allows the Secretary of State for Health to make regulations to set aside the common law duty of confidentiality for defined medical purposes.
Freedom of Information Act 2000 The Act that makes provision for the disclosure of information held by public authorities or by persons providing services for them.
Environmental Information Regulations 2004 The Regulations make provision for the dissemination of environmental information by public authorities and for public authorities to make available environmental information in response to a request.
Human Rights Act 1998 The Act gives further effect to rights and freedoms guaranteed under the European Convention on Human Rights.
Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005 The Regulations implement the EU Directive on the re-use of public sector information (2003/98/EC) (the Directive) and establishes a minimum set of rules governing the re-use and the practical means of facilitating re-use of existing documents held by UK public sector bodies.
