Guidance for organisations working in shared records environments  (09/10/2012)

  • Organisations that contribute some or all of their patient records to a shared record environment remain legally responsible for that information, in common with the other organisations that can contribute to and access the shared record. Each organisation needs to ensure that all data protection requirements are satisfied.
  • It is recommended that shared records communities use the attached checklist to ensure that effective information governance arrangements are established so that each organisation understands its role and responsibilities in safeguarding patient records.
