Implementing the 20 Year Rule in the NHS

The 20 Year Rule is about to be implemented in the NHS. This change to the Public Records Act supports key government policies around transparency, accountability and recommendations from the Francis report into Mid Staffordshire. It will affect the timing of transfer of records of historical value to The National Archives or other public archive services, which will take place ten years earlier than at present. To assist this process, additional information on corporate records management for NHS Acute, Ambulance, Community and Mental Health Trusts only will be collected with version 11.2 of the IG Toolkit, to be returned no later than December 2013. The form for this can be accessed via the 20 Year Rule tab on the Toolkit home page which will be available with version 11.2 of the IG Toolkit scheduled for release over the weekend of 25th October 2013. Your response will not impact on your Information Governance Toolkit score.
