The IG Toolkit contains an Information Mapping Tool to assist organisations
to map their flows of personal identifiable data and enable them to provide
assurance that flows are secure. The Tool provides automated and manual
mechanisms for mapping data flows and for assessing risks in existing practices.
Access to the Information Mapping Tool is only available via the Information
Governance Toolkit (IGT) Administrators in each organisation, who should
determine and set up users of the tool. Organisations, through their IGT
Administrators, can allocate as many users as they wish to carry out the data
mapping by assigning them the Information Mapping User role.
Once login information has been received, users should log-in to the
Information Governance Toolkit and scroll down the menu on the right hand side
and select "Information Mapping". Users are advised to read the guidance materials before they start, as this
includes a step-by step guide to using the tool as well as general guidance,
FAQs and other supporting materials. The following guidance was published in
January 2008 to assist organisations to plan information mapping implementation
